Pumping using thermal waves

چکیده

It is shown that thermal waves applied on the bounding surface of a horizontal slot generate pumping effect. Reynolds stress developed by change in flow field due to inertia associated with penetration wave into fluid interior drives net movement direction. The induced rate increases speed, but excessive speed reduces it as convection becomes limited only near-wall area. increase wavelength and its decrease reduce rate. An amplitude saturation limiting growth. Judicious selection provides means for optimizing wave-induced pumping. magnitude reduction Prandtl number.

Thermal Pumping of Light-Emitting Diodes

The work presented here is a study of thermally enhanced injection in light-emitting diodes (LEDs). This effect, which we refer to as "thermal pumping", results from Peltier energy exchange from the lattice to charge carriers when current is injected into an LED. For an applied voltage V such that qV < (hw), where q is the electron charge and (hw) is the average emitted photon energy, thermal p...

Thermal Gravitational Waves

There is a lot of current interest in sources of gravitational waves and active ongoing projects to detect such radiation, such as the LIGO project. These are long wavelength, low frequency gravitational waves. LISA would be sensitive to much longer wavelengths and lower fluxes. However compact stellar objects can generate high frequency (10 16 -10 21 Hz) thermal gravitational radiation, which ...

Thermal diffusion shock waves.

The Ludwig-Soret effect or thermal diffusion, which refers to the separation of liquid mixtures in a temperature gradient, is governed by a nonlinear, partial differential equation in space and time. It is shown here that the solution to the nonlinear differential equation for a binary mixture predicts the existence of shock waves completely analogous to fluid shocks and obeys an expression for...

Digital Breakthrough Detection using laser-Induced, Thermal Diffusion Shock Waves

The efficiency of a jet engine is improved by increasing the temperature in the engine combustion components. Combustion chamber temperatures have increased up to 1600° C over the past decade. Therefore, jet engine combustion components must deal with high temperatures. Free-air-flow cooling holes are critical for cooling the components. But the process of drilling cooling holes has numerous pr...
